The market has opened sharply lower following global turmoil after crude fell below USD 30 a barrel. The 30-share BSE Sensex lost 266.93 points or 1.07 percent to 24587.18 and the 50-share NSE Nifty declined 85.90 points or 1.14 percent to 7476.50. The market breadth was pathetic as about nine shares declined for every share advancing on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Tata Steel plunged 4.57 percent after S&P downgraded the stock to 'BB-', a low investment grade rating, over persistent subdued operating performance amid subdued demand and low steel prices. Axis Bank, SBI, Tata Motors, BHEL, Bank of Baroda and PNB were down 2.5-3 percent. However, ITC gained.

Infosys results come as a relief for investors concerned about the tepid growth in the IT sector. Earlier this week, TCS - India's biggest outsourcer -- had disappointed the Street for the sixth straight quarter.

The S&P BSE Sensex started on a cautious note on Wednesday tracking mixed trend seen in other Asian markets. The fall in the index was led by losses in ICICI Bank, TCS, Axis Bank, and Tata Motors.

Indian shares rose for a fifth consecutive session on Tuesday to mark their longest winning streak since mid-June as Tata Motors rose over optimism about its Jaguar Land Rover unit, while other blue-chips tracked gains in regional markets.

However, bigger gains were muted as benchmark indexes saw technical resistance at their respective 200-day exponential moving average, while profit-taking also weighed.
India's benchmark BSE index rose 0.55 percent to 26,932.88 points, while the broader NSE index advanced 0.41 percent to 8,152.90 points.

Current Indian Stock Market Serives

A ruckus over the release from prison of a man who led one of the biggest revolts against the Indian military in Kashmir is adding to mounting problems for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he tries to push economic reform through parliament.Indian factory growth probably lost more momentum in January while inflation remained below the central bank's target last month, bolstering chances of further interest rate cuts, a Reuters poll found.

The Reserve Bank of India will lower interest rates further over the coming year but only gradually, wary that subdued inflation may pick up again, according to economists polled by Reuters, who gave only a one-in-three chance it would act again in April.
